Since 2008, YOR has been bringing Colorado’s most respected and talented musicians into high schools and youth residential treatment centers. Credited as the most utilized music provider for Denver Public Schools, our intensive, out-of-school-time activates, for-credit music classes, advanced technical training, and the positive mentorships offered by our musician-instructors are empowering young people in Denver’s most vulnerable communities to graduate and develop the skills needed to enter the workforce or pursue a post-secondary education.
In 2017, YOR joined a cohort of nonprofits and school districts across the United States that are designing and implementing local models of Side-by-Side Coaching, an innovative new approach to music education. Thanks, in large part, to a three-year grant from the Country Music Association Foundation, YOR is designing a locally and culturally relevant curriculum that will be piloted in five schools during the 2018–2019 school year and additional schools in subsequent school years.
Open Lab Fridays/Saturdays are open sessions for students to come and work on their projects, take lessons, and collaborate with other students. This program is for students who have attended a Youth on Record class in the past or are currently enrolled. For Questions, please email Brent@YouthonRecord.org
FEMpowered is a music club for young women who have an interest in learning about and making music. FEMpowered meets for three hours, twice a month, to help hone individual artistic abilities, develop group collaborative pieces and learn new skills relevant to the creative industries.
The Youth on Record Fellowship program is an intensive and comprehensive 10-month program that is designed to bridge the gap between high school and either post-secondary school or a career. Each month, YOR Fellows participate in personal, professional and artistic development programming, designed to help them set and achieve goals for their next stage of life.
My Youth on Record (MYOR) is a podcast where artists share the music they created as teens, and the stories behind the songs.
Broadcast from Youth on Record, a Colorado-based nonprofit that empowers youth to find their voice and value through music, MYOR interviews include early recordings from our musical guests, and conversations about the past, the present, and the future of music for all generations.
These once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences will not only bring relevant and compelling artists to the Colorado community, but will give Youth on Record students the opportunity to learn all aspects of the recording arts. Annual recordings will be released on a compilation album, with proceeds from the sales benefiting Youth on Record’s music programs for underserved, local teens.
